Adopt a Grandparent

We are living in the community that our elders made but today we forget them. Connection and interaction are those factors that are necessary for everyone. We should enrich our senior’s life by developing connections with them.

Grandparents are a blessing for some people while others don’t even care about them. Some people wish to have them while for others their presence or absence has no importance.

If you don’t have a grandparent or if someone’s children wish to have grandparents. You can adopt a senior center resident as a grandma or grandpa.

This will benefit both of you. It provides emotional and practical support to elders, they get the support of a family and you and your kids get new friendships. This brings a positive change on both sides.

Talk to them once a week, give a small gift once a month. Your kids may talk to them about things which probably they even won’t talk to you which will give emotional support to you and your kids and also give companionship to senior residents.

CHD Living Home Care services Established since 1984. They are proud to be an award-winning, family-owned, group of care services in Surrey and South London.

With more than 35 years’ experience of providing the best quality care to the community, they understand how important this decision for anyone.

They launched the ‘Adopt a Grandparent’ campaign to bring a sense of comfort to young people and the elderly who may not have grandparents/grandchildren of their own, to create long-lasting intergenerational friendships.

All you need to do is fill in the form and one of their team will be in touch to pair you with your new ‘Grandma’ or ‘Grandpa’. After that, these are some of how you can help:

Having phone calls/video calls with your new friend, sending cheerful pictures/stories/poems (post or email) for them to enjoy, sharing stories from different generations, sending letters/postcards to your new friend, much like a penpal, etc.
