Through the Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance "Make More Happen Award," Empty Bowls of Owensboro has received a $5,000 grant from EM Ford. The community can contribute to doubling that donation through an online voting competition.
A nonprofit organization called Empty Bowls is focused on raising funds to support groups whose main mission is to fight hunger. The contribution will be included in the money generated during the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser taking place next month. First Christian Church and King's Table will share this year's fundraiser's proceeds.
"We at EM Ford feel that it's important to support the issue of food insecurity in our community and contribute to making a difference for those in need," said Tina Taylor, EM Ford Personal Lines Agent and Chairperson of Empty Bowls. "We are grateful to Liberty Mutual and Safeco for providing much-needed funds to continue their significant work, and thrilled at the opportunity to double the donation simply by asking the community to show their support," the statement reads.
On the official Make More Happen website at agentgiving.com/EM-Ford, a spotlight is being placed on the EM Ford and Empty Bowls of Owensboro community narrative. The $5,000 grant will increase to $10,000 if the featured story obtains at least 500 votes and comments by September 30.
A full-service independent insurance and financial planning firm, EM Ford was founded in 1925 and serves Kentucky and other states. Since 2016, EM Ford has actively worked with the group and participated in fundraising activities like bowl-making sessions and silent auctions.
"EM Ford is a shining example of our independent agents' endless dedication to their nonprofit partners through their volunteering, fundraising, and overall awareness efforts," stated Amy Geary Holley, Senior Territory Manager for Safeco Insurance's Mid-Atlantic Region. "The Make More Happen Awards give our agents a platform to share the good work they've done, and we hope it motivates others in Owensboro to get involved as well," says the organization.
