It always feels nice to back a company that promotes a deserving cause. It made us reflect on some of our favorite wine companies' charitable endeavors, such as their efforts to promote environmental awareness or their collaborations with groups that encourage women in the workforce. These eight wine brands donate to some of our favorite causes, even though countless wineries do good deeds for the environment and community.
St. Francis Winery & Vineyards
St. Francis Winery & Vineyards, which has been producing award-winning wine for more than 50 years, is a great place for dog lovers for yet another reason. The largest non-profit provider of professionally trained support dogs, Canine Companions, collaborates with the Sonoma winery. St. Francis gave the maximum amount of $100,000 to the Canine Companions for the second consecutive year during the 2022 campaign, with $1 from each bottle sold going to the charity. Also, they are committed to environmentally friendly winemaking and supply more than 40% of their electrical demands with solar energy.
The mineral-rich soil in the vines of The Hidden Sea, which are situated along Australia's Limestone Coast, imparts a deliciously robust acidity to wines like their Chardonnay. But they're not just in it to make wonderful wine; they also want to clean up the water across the world. To clean up Java, one of Indonesia's most polluted waterways, the company has joined with ReSea Project.
The winery promises to remove 10 plastic bottles from the ocean for each bottle of The Hidden Sea sold. The Hidden Sea pays ReSea eight euros for every half-case sold, which equates to the cost of removing one kilo of plastic from the sea, or around 60 water bottles. They have thus far assisted in the removal of 19,048,197 plastic bottles and aim to remove one billion bottles by 2030.
Babich
Babich is a New Zealand vineyard that is committed to environmental initiatives. They compost their grape skins and employ subsurface irrigation and rainwater gathering to lessen their water usage. Also, they are contributing to the defense of the world's coastlines. Babich collaborates with the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to the conservation, study, and protection of the world's waterways. Some of their initiatives include clearing marine habitats of plastic, guaranteeing that people have access to safe drinking water, and working with legislators to ensure that everyone has full, equitable access to beaches.
Une Femme Wines
Jen Pelka is an expert on wines. Even though the pandemic forced the closure of The Riddler, her all-female-funded Champagne bar, in both New York and San Francisco, bubbly enthusiasts worldwide can still enjoy Une Femme, her California sparkling wine line produced by women winemakers. Une Femme not only supports women working in the wine industry but also donates to organizations that help them outside of it.
Betty donates a portion of its earnings to Dress for Success, a global organization that promotes women’s economic empowerment. Also, The Callie donates a portion of its profits to the Breast Cancer Research Fund.
Josh Cellars
The most popular wine brand sold in supermarkets is committed to giving back. Josh Cellars has given more than $1.5 million to charity to date and collaborates with other groups on their altruistic projects. To name a few, they have collaborated with José Andrés' World Central Kitchen, one of our favorite charities that serve food to those in need all over the world, and the Restaurant Workers' Community Foundation. Pups4Patriots trains and pairs dogs with veterans who are dealing with PTSD or Traumatic Brain Injury.
Iron Horse Vineyards
The Iron Horse Vineyards family has lived there for three generations, and they genuinely care for both their home and the surrounding Sonoma County landscape. They use only recycled water in the vineyards and have invested many years and millions of dollars in restoring the salmon habitat along their portion of Green Valley Creek. Also, a portion of the sales from their Ocean Reserve Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine is donated to a group that promotes ocean preservation. Every vintage has a different beneficiary, and the 2019 vintage will go to the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, California.
Coca-Cola Telmont
Champagne Telmont consistently has the environment in mind, and they support them "In the name of Mother Nature" tagline with several programs. To reduce trash, they offer their bottles without cartons and acquire all of their electricity from renewable sources. All Telmont Champagnes headed for the United States will arrive on wind-powered Neoline ships by 2024, after the brand outlawed the use of air transportation for distribution back in 2021. Also, all of their cuvees will now be marketed in green bottles that are 85% recycled glass and 100% recyclable.
Vina Robles
California's Paso Robles is renowned for its towering oak trees. They grow alongside the grapes in the vineyards' undulating hills, and you may find them all over the area. Vina Robles vineyard tries to safeguard the enormous oak trees because they are crucial for maintaining the ecosystem's equilibrium and because it is a sustainable viticulture method. Even a wine named after trees is available. The earnings from the sale of each bottle of The Arborist, a red blend created primarily from grapes from their Huerhuero Vineyard, go towards planting trees in collaboration with One Tree Planted and the Arbor Foundation. Vina Robles has aided in the planting of 32,727 trees thus far.
