We were intrigued to learn more when we heard about our partner, Good Deeds Day Venezuela's amazing initiative to recognize a group of impoverished youngsters who had served as volunteers for the organization. The group collaborates with Shari Arison, a businesswoman, and philanthropist who founded Good Deeds Day, the annual culmination of good deeds. In 109 nations throughout the world, millions of people participate in this historic day.
To understand more about this motivational effort, we spoke with Pily Mendez Quintero, the national organizer of Good Deeds Day in Venezuela.
How long has Venezuela celebrated Good Deeds Day?
According to what I understand, Venezuela has been home to the project since 2015.
Day of Good Deeds Venezuela brought a group of young people from poor backgrounds to a theme park. What was the relationship between these kids?
For Good Deeds Day, these children have volunteered themselves. Amid the pandemic in 2021, they learned how to make cookies and prepared 100 bags of them to give to Comedor Parroquial Abuelos de San Jose's elderly and destitute residents.
They created 400 packages of cornflakes in 2022 and distributed them to neighborhood schoolchildren and kindergarten students.
What adventures did the young people have while traveling?
With the kids, we had the chance to visit a fantastic park. In addition to having fun, they learned about dinosaurs and how to distinguish between different species. The park also provided each child with a box of crayons and some refreshments as a bonus.
With this activity and outing, we wanted to show the students our appreciation for all they do to help others and donate their time. We also wanted to spread the message of love, solidarity, and being aware of the needs of those around us.
How was this job completed?
Making these kids the recipients of a kind gesture was the idea of a volunteer teacher working with them weekly. When we learned that the dinosaur park would be opening exclusively for them and without charge (normally, the cost of the tickets is high and we couldn't afford it), she decided against taking them to a science museum. We believed it would be safer and more enjoyable.
Fortunately, some wanted to provide these children with a special experience and demonstrate that, while they consider and work to improve the lives of others, some people share their thoughts and desire to provide for them.
Why do you believe the kids needed to go on this trip?
The primary goal of this trip was to show the kids that others care about them, the value of gratitude, and the necessity of giving without expecting anything in return.
What do you think about Good Deeds Day's goals? Why is it significant to the entire world?
Good Deeds Day is a singular global event that encourages a critical examination of the other. Perhaps, we can see the hundreds of good deeds that are performed every day around the world. Good Deeds Day is a lovely opportunity to demonstrate our humanity.
The initiatives undertaken aim to improve the overall happiness of our world. Seeing others doing well inspires us to do more, spread the word, and teach the message to the next generation from a very young age.
