To assist with the evacuation efforts and the transportation of emergency supplies in the wake of the terrible earthquakes on February 6, 2023, Norway dispatched its C-130J Hercules cargo aircraft to Turkey. On February 13, 2023, the first medical evacuation operation was carried out, transporting 28 patients to hospitals in Ankara via the Adana airport.
The Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) of NATO, working closely with the Turkish government, organized the Norwegian offer.
The airplane is assisting to transfer emergency supplies and removing people from the devastated areas to medical facilities in Turkey that are better equipped. The strain on emergency responders and assistance organizations in Türkiye's worst-affected regions is being lessened by this.
In response to Turkey's appeal for foreign assistance, the Norwegian "flying ambulance" is currently in operation with similar planes given by the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
Norwegian medical evacuation missions have a wealth of experience. In recent months, medical evacuation flights to hospitals in Europe have been carried out once a week by Norwegian military aircraft outfitted with specialized equipment.
