Background
National Brownie Day's beginnings are unknown, however, it is highly possible that it was invented by a Brownie fan who realized that this much-loved delicacy deserved an entire day to be commemorated.
Brownies are not only tasty, but they are also quite simple to make! Everyone has a favorite brownie recipe, whether it has been passed down through generations or was discovered on the internet.
Brownies have been available in America since the twentieth century, but no one can agree on how and when they were invented, therefore there are a few legends about the origins of this chocolaty delight.
Where did the Brownie come from?
One of the most well-known origin stories for the Brownie dates back to 1893 in Chicago. According to legend, Bertha Palmer, the wife of the Palmer House Hotel's owner, asked the hotel's pastry chef to produce a cake that would fit easily into a lunchbox and be appropriate for the ladies attending the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The chef created a chocolate, walnut, and apricot glaze delicacy that became known as the Palmer House Brownie, which is being marketed today.
Others think the Brownie originated as a result of a baking mistake by a housewife in Maine.
According to legend, a lady was attempting to bake a chocolate cake when it failed to rise. Nonetheless, she chose to serve it, and it was a success. The recipe was featured as "Bangor Brownies" in various cookbooks released in 1904 and was mentioned in Maria Willet Howard's cookbook in 1907.
America's most popular dessert
Whatever the origins of the Brownie, one thing is certain: it quickly became one of America's favorite desserts, with many families having their family recipes. Search the internet quickly and you'll be surprised at how many recipes there are! The reality is that you can add anything to your brownies to make them unique and special: caramel, peanut butter, walnuts, pistachios, raspberries... the list is limitless.
